NoHo Theatre and Arts Festival |
| North
Hollywood boasts the largest live arts festival
in California.The festival, now in its 13th year,
features live theater performances of comedy,
improvisation, drama and musicals performed by
top local theater companies. Festival activities
will also include international entertainment
from South Africa and Russia along with local
Brazilian tango and flamenco dance troops on three
concert stages, and more than 250 fine art, crafts
and NoHo marketplace exhibits. Visitors are encouraged
to use the Metro Rail system to reach North Hollywood.
Come celebrate local artists and great local weather!

Israel's Independence Day Festival
|
|
Israels 57th Independence day will
be celebrated this year on May 15th, 2005.
This community-wide event initiated 16 years
ago has become a well known and prominent
event in the greater Los Angeles area. The
Festival has grown to attract over 45,000
people. The Festival includes: non-stop
entertainment, fashion show, carnival rides,
200 booths of vendors and Jewish/Israeli
organizations, a variety of ethnic food
for sale, Israeli folk dancing, arts and
crafts, Israeli and Jewish cultural &
heritage pavilions and an Israeli art exhibit.
Come and learn about all the different ways
people practice Judaism both here and abroad.

of the Motherland
May 8
The
Japanese American Cultural and Community
Center is hosting an event that will speak
to the roots of some of the Asian Pacific
Islander population in Los Angeles- Hawaii.
In honor of all mothers, Hawaiian musicians
will gather for a journey back to their
roots - the mother of their musical lives.
Music of the Motherland is a kaleidoscopic
sampler of traditional to contemporary island
offerings at their best.

Blues and Jazz Extravaganza

Celebrate the day with some of LAs
top Gospel, Blues, Jazz & Soul performers.
Bring your picnic basket filled with food
and drinks and enjoy a day out at the John
Anson Ford Amphitheatre where no seat is
farther than 96 feet from the stage. The
singer, Barbara Morrison, has performed
with a virtual "whos who"
of the Jazz and the Blues worlds.

Mother
of Humanity® Statue
This unique bronze sculpture by artist Nijel
BPG is an inspirational monument that celebrates
the contributions of women to civilization.
The Mother of Humanity has multi-racial
features, including Amerindian, African,
and European traits, representing a common
matronly figure for our region. It is the
Watts Labor Action Committee's statement
of dedication to the community. The sculpture
is part of the Blue
Line Watts Public Art Metro Adventure.

Roots
of My Community

Come to the Olvera
Street plaza for a festive weekend honoring
mothers in the Latino community. Cinco de
Mayo is the inspiration for this outdoor
event highlighted by the first annual Menudo
Cook-Off and A Taste of LA, celebrating
the great food our city boasts. This is
a perfect opportunity to see La Placita
Olvera and its surrounding areas, which
include the socially active La Reina de
Los Angeles Mission Church, art galleries,
and the Downtown Civic Center.
