Celebrating Black History Month

This February, the Huntington will feature six-foot paintings while the REDCAT is bringing back its Creative Music Festival. And don't forget that February is also the official Black History Month. Several LA venues are celebrating through music performances, workshops, and theatrical productions. Constable's Great Landscapes: The Six-Foot Paintings

John ConstableThe Huntington presents the first exhibition to present all six of John Constable’s monumental six-foot landscape paintings in one location, this winter starting February 3rd. Shown alongside the six grand paintings will be the full-size oil sketches Constable made for them - remarkable works of art in their own right.

Creative Music FestivalThe Creative Music Festival returns to REDCAT for two superlative programs of music for orchestras and large ensembles on February 2nd - 3rd. Guest artists are Bill Dixon, Lawrence D. “Butch” Morris, and Adam Rudolph and The Organic Orchestra—luminaries of creative music as we know it today.

Black History Month at the LA Zoo

Black History Month Celebration

LA Zoo presents a weekend of performances by the Bobby Haynes Jazz Quartet, Ray Sidney and the Firm Soundation Gospel Group, the Upstream Reggae Band and African Drumming and Dancing. There will also b educational displays to honor prominent African American Zoo and Aquariums professionals, and children activities.

At the Armstrong Theatre: Torrance Cultural Arts Center see this one-man theatrical journey of a famed African-American activist. Film and Broadway star Mel Johnson Jr. (Mufasa in The Lion King) portrays Douglass’ struggle for freedom - for himself and millions of others.
