Considered one of Downtown’s latest crown jewels, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels graces the entire north side of Temple Street between Grand Avenue and Hill Street. Designed by architect, Jose Rafael Moneo, the Cathedral is reminiscent of the California missions featuring plazas, staircases, and colonnades. Within the Cathedral, are the huge tapestries of artist John Nava; one depicts Christ being baptized, the other is the city plan of Los Angeles creating the parallel between “a new Jerusalem.” Combined with the exquisite works of art and detailing, the Cathedral is a powerful and transforming experience that should not be missed.
