The Historical Society of Southern California, founded in 1883, is the oldest historical society in California. We offer a wide range of programs--from educational outreach programs to tours to books and social events focused on the region's past--all dedicated to preserving, promoting, and exploring the history of the Southland. Our official headquarters is at the home of Charles Fletcher Lummis--El Alisal--located in the historic Highland Park neighborhood. The house is open to the public for tours Friday-Sunday, 12-4 and to school tours by appointment.
