Directly across from the Broadway Spring Center garage elevator, you will find Biddy Mason: House of the Open Hand by Betye Saar. Placed in the elevator lobby for the high visibility to pedestrians parking in the garage, Saar’s installation evokes a time when Los Angeles was a smaller and more personal place to live. A sepia-toned photo mural on the wall adjacent to the elevator doors shows Mason sitting with three other women on the porch in front of a house owned by her friend and neighbor Robert Owens.
