Artist Nancy Graves was selected for this commission, and titled her artwork Sequi, which means “to follow” in Latin. Her artwork is represented in the collections of major museums including the Whitney and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Her sculptures usually combine natural forms, as is true for Sequi which consists of bronze castings of molds “made of enlarged clay positives” of natural forms: a banana blossom, a deerfoot fern, a lobster claw, a seed pod and vines. The abstract sculpture incorporates the vibrant colors found in Graves’ paintings and watercolors.
