The Mark Taper Forum, which is under the artistic direction of Gordon Davidson and is located at the Performing Arts Center (formerly The Music Center) in downtown Los Angeles, has received virtually every theatrical award including the 1977 special Tony for theatrical excellence. It is one of America's top regional theatres and a number of the plays presented on and off-Broadway and across the country began at the Taper.

The Taper has a regular subscription season with over 26,000 subscribers, one of the highest year-round subscription figures for resident theatres in the country. Annual attendance is over 250,000. The season, which usually runs twelve months from September to August, includes five to six plays.
