Contemporary Soliloquies
on the Natural World |
|
This exhibition features the recent work of five Los Angeles landscapists: Karen Carson, Merion Estes, Constance Mallinson, Margaret Nielsen, and Takako Yamaguchi. Each is at the peak of her career, has been making art since the 1970s, and although close friends for all those years, each has fashioned her own unique style in the process of exploring what it means to be painting landscapes at the end of the twentieth century. Using earth’s terrain as a lens through which to perceive a world in the throes of environmental and ecological trauma, each offers in this exhibition a facet of what constitutes, together, aesthetics for the twenty-first century landscape tradition. The exhibition will extend through all galleries in the museum until January 21, 2006. The exhibition is curated by Max F. Schulz and Ariadni Liokatis.

Asian Voices — Greatest Hits (Vol. 1) |
|
In your face and no-holds-barred, Asian Voices blends performance, slam poetry, movement, and monologues. All of these elements challenge and subvert themes of identity, gender/body politics, racism, and family dynamics with a healthy dose of comedy and pathos. This first
gathering of the new voices & faces of Asian Pacific American performance art runs December 8th-10th at Highways Performance Space and is directed by critically acclaimed performance artist Alex Luu. This is Highways’ 12th Annual Treasure in the House and is part of the Highways Asian Pacific American Performance and Visual arts series curated by Dan Kwong.
