Celebrations
In
light of St. Patrick's Day, this week's themed picks feature
events celebrating Irish culture. But if you're in the
mood for some collaborative art, check out the Santa Monica
Airport
Art Walk or the Endowment Center's
new exhibit on Botanicas and Herbal Medicine. March is also
Women's History Month and the NoHo Gallery celebrates with
its latest exhibit. Take advantage of LA's diverse happenings!

Santa
Monica
Airport Art Walk
|
Over
time, Santa Monica Airport has developed into
an art incubator and is now an alluring destination
occupied by a number of creative venues. To
showcase this cultural hub,
the City’s Cultural Affairs Division
and the Santa Monica Airport will sponsor the
first Santa Monica Airport Art Walk. The airport
is home to numerous private artist studios,
the Santa Monica Art Studios complex, the Sherry
Frumkin and Arena One galleries, the Santa
Monica College Ceramic Studios, and the Ruskin
Group Theatre. These spaces will all be open
to visitors during the Art Walk on March 10th.

Exhibit: Worldly
Roots
and Local Healers
|
The
California Endowment Center unveils
the exhibit, “Worldly
Roots and Local Healers: Botánicas
and Herbal Medicine in LA” at
its new gallery space. The installation
opens on March 8th for a four-month stay.
Botánicas
are part alternative health care facility
and cultural gathering place, part religious
supply house and spiritual center. Featuring
herbal products, ritual objects, color
photographs and video
oral histories, the exhibit aims to foster
dialogue and potential collaboration between
conventional
and traditional health practitioners who
serve clients with a range of spiritual
beliefs.

Spotlight:
Celebrating Women's History Month
with
the Exhibit, "WOMAN!"
|
March
is Women’s History Month and a special
time to honor the achievements of all women
across the globe. But one local gallery celebrates
with ART... highlighting an impressive collection
of women artists, and even some woman-inspired art by some talented men. NoHo Gallery LA’s "WOMAN!" exhibit
features the Fine Line Brush, Pen & Ink
Artistry of Karen B. Locke as well as the graceful
bronze sculptures embellishing women by Lynn
Creighton.
The exhibit opens with a reception on March
7th at 6:30pm and closes on April 14th.

annual Downtown LA parade begins at Main
and Arcadia, travels south on
Main Street, and turns West on 5th Street,

Patrick's Day Feast" Cooking Class
March 17th
9:00am - 1:00pm
|
Celebrate
St. Patrick’s
Day by learning how to create an authentic
Irish feast at the California School of Culinary
Arts. Participants will learn how to prepare
corned beef and cabbage, colcannon and
Irish soda bread. Students will also learn
how to bake a delectable green beer Bailey’s
Irish Cream cheesecake.
